Burčákobraní – Young Wine Festival

The Young Wine Festival is held in Radotín on Saturday Sept 13 at the small square near the church. You may pass through on your way to the venue. You can taste some really good burčák and other delicacies and enjoy music.

Burčák is a partially fermented young wine made from freshly pressed grape juice. It is popular in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, especially during the grape harvest season in late summer and early autumn. The drink is sweet, slightly fizzy, and contains a low amount of alcohol (usually between 1-7%). Burčák is only available for a short period each year and is meant to be consumed fresh — usually within a few days of production. It's a traditional and seasonal drink that signals the beginning of the wine-making process and is often enjoyed at wine festivals and local markets.

Radotín „Biotop“ – natural swimming pool

Natural swimming pool with basic facilities operates in Radotín. On a hot day a new great place for relaxing. It is next to the venue. Check http://www.biotopradotin.cz. An indoor swimming pool is available, too.

Safety and Annoyances

In general, Prague is as safe as any European city and the Czech Republic is generally a very safe country. However, Prague is a tourist magnet and attracts scammers of all kinds. But with common precautions, you will have no problems.

Common scams are connected with money exchange. Czech crowns (korunas) are are official currency, but euros are quite widely accepted too. You can pay with your card almost everywhere, and you can survive with no cash easily. The most common money scams are
– Unfair exchange offices – check the exchange rate carefully, for example correct rate for the euro should be around 24–25 CZK per euro, but some places will give you only CZK 16 per euro. Always keep your receipt. You have a legal right to cancel the transaction with no reason given within 3 hours. If the exchange office hesitates to return money, call the police.
– Scammers who will offer you a better rate or a change of your large bill to smaller ones, but give you expired Belarusian rubles instead of Czech crowns. Never change money with anybody on the street.
– Unfair ATMs – Always deny DCC (dynamic currency conversion - ATM company exchange rate is much worse than your bank's one) – pay in local currency. Some ATMs charge unexpected fees – Euronet ATM are generally not trustworthy.

Also, there is a wide range of tourist traps, like in any tourist city
– Be aware of pickpockets in crowds.
– Do not be tricked by false charities.
– Check the price level of basic goods. In the Prague center, some minimarkets charge absurd prices.
– "Large beer" is 0,5 liter, not 1 liter as some tourist traps will try to persuade you.
– "Trdelník", which you can see everywhere, is NOT a traditional Czech pastry, and usually it is quite tasteless. It has its origin in Hungarian kürtőskalács (more) and 15 years ago nobody knew it here.
– Russian matryoshka dolls have nothing to do with the Czech culture, souvenir shops selling communist caps are a shame, targeting naive tourists with no clue that in fact this is quite offensive to the majority of Czechs (the City of Prague's inability to get rid of this crap is another sad story).
– Lime scooters are a tourist attraction, and they are quite annoying. It is illegal to drive on pavements, it is illegal to drive after consumption of alcohol. It is disrespectful to drop the scooter wherever you want.

It is illegal to drink alcohol in the majority of public spaces in the Prague center, which is a tool to avoid loud drinking parties. You will have no problem if you keep decency.

We highly recommend Honest Guide YouTube channel where you can learn about all kinds of scams and get interesting tips to „off the beaten track“ places in Prague.
